Hot Foil technique 2 – Anniversary card

Hot foil technique 2 – Anniversary card. Craft an elegant anniversary card with the Sweetly Sentimental bundle which has a hot foiling die to create several shimmering metallic sentiments and versatile greetings for different occasions. If you’ve never hot foiled before, there is an instructional video at the end of this post.

For this card, I am using the 2nd piece of the Garden Silhouette hot foiled fussy cut piece. It was created from the Hot Foil Technique 1 on hot foiling in a previous post here to make this second card.

Hot Foil Technique 2

1. Ink up the Garden Silhouette Hot Foil die with Lost Lagoon ink
2. Place die, detail pattern face up on surface of Stampin’ Hot Foil System but do not switch the machine on.
3. Place card stock large enough to cover whole of die – 5″ x 6 ¼” (approx. 12.5 cm x 15.5 cm). The actual die measures 4 ¾” x 6″ (12.1 x 15.2 cm). Omit foil.
4. Next place Green Shim plate on top followed by Clear plate.
5. Move Stampin’ Hot Foil System to the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss large machine and run it through very slowly to allow pressure from rollers to transfer pattern and ink onto card stock.
6. Remove card stock from plate and you have an inked and embossed piece.

Note : I have not tried to use the hot foil die using the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine plates because I didn’t want to risk damaging the die nor did I want to deviate from instructions in case it made the warranty null and void.

Cutting guide

1. Card base : Lost Lagoon cut at 5 ¾” x 8 1/4″ (14.5 cm x 21 cm) folded in half.
2. Apply Hot Foil Technique 2 as described above on a piece of Lost Lagoon cut at 6 ¼” x 5 ¼” (16 cm x 13.5 cm). Trim to same size as front of card 4 ⅛” x 5 ¾” (10.5 cm x 14.5 cm)
3. Scrap of Lost Lagoon – die cut label from Flourish & Frames Hot Foil dies.
4. Basic White card stock – hot foil greetings from Sweetly Sentimental Hot Foil dies.
5. Embellish with Array of Dots.
6. *If starting from scratch, you’ll need to Hot Foil a Pretty Peacock piece cut at 6 ¼”x 5 ¼” (16 cm x 13.5 cm) then separate the piece into two pieces by fussy cutting around the flowers.

Inside card

1. Basic White layer : 3 ⅞” x 5 ½” (9.8 cm x 14 cm)
2. Use Technique 2 Hot Foil technique described in paragraph under that heading. Fussy cut around the flowers to separate it into two pieces. Trim sides to 3 ⅞” and decide what height you want it and trim off bottom. Align with sides and bottom edge of Basic White Layer and adhere to it.
3. Then adhere Basic White layer to inside of card as pictured above.

Assembling front of card

1. Adhere Hot Foil Technique 2 trimmed Lost Lagoon piece to cover the entire front of card base.
2. Next apply adhesive to remnant from Hot Foil Technique 1 in Pretty Peacock. Align to both sides and bottom of card base as pictured.
3. Select one of the Sweetly Sentiment hot foiled greetings. Apply dimensionals on back and adhere to die cut Lost Lagoon label from Flourish and Frames Hot Foil dies.
4. Centre and adhere label to Pretty Peacock gold hot foil piece as pictured.
5. Embellish with Array of Dots as shown.

Stampin’ Hot Foil System

This is a new tool by Stampin’ Up! with special Hot Foil Dies. If you missed the post introducing the machine and information all about it, here’s a video to explain how the system works. Please be aware this machine is designed to fit Stampin’ Up!’s larger Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine and was tested with their own line of products. It would render the 1 year warranty on the Stampin’ Hot Foil System null and void if you use it on non-Stampin’ Up! machines which may not fit.

Also be sure you’re ordering the machine with the right plug for your market. Foils and dies have to be purchased separately.
